2018 Member Member - July 29
We had 8 teams battle it out for our annual Member-Member event on July 29th. Our format this year was a bit different from that of the previous years: the front 9 was played as a Best Ball, and the back 9 was played as Alternate Shot. This, for better or worse, resulted in some additional needed teamwork! :)

2014 - Jippy "Don't Call Me Jennifer" Pang holds off Yi for Club Championship
Defending champion Katie Yi and newcomer Jippy Pang were tied for the lead in the final round of the SPBWGC Club Championship when Pang stood over a 25-foot birdie putt on the 16th green. Above Pang, along the seawall, folks out for a Sunday stroll stopped and watched quietly, as if they knew something important was about to happen.
When Pang drained the fast-breaking right-to-left putt for a birdie 3, the spectators erupted in cheers. "It's a good thing I didn't know they were watching, or I would have been even more nervous," said Pang, who took a two-shot lead when Yi missed her par putt and went on to a three-shot victory over the defending champion. Lisa Villasenor, also a past champion, finished third at four shots back of Pang's two-round (28-hole) score of 130 on the abbreviated layout.
The 27-year-old Cal graduate (yes, she went to Cal, could you tell?) started the day with a two-shot lead over Yi and a three-shot lead over Villasenor. The birdie flask came out on No. 8, when Villasenor sank a putt for a 2. Then Yi birdied No. 9 to pick up a shot on Pang, who held a one-shot lead over Yi and a three-shot lead over Villasenor at the five-hole "turn."
Yi pulled even with an impressive par on No. 11 -- her approach shot rolled all the way to the back of the green, although she never even measured the yardage because she thought she was so far out of range. "She's so tough," Pang said several times, wiping her brow as Yi made her charge and took the lead when Pang got into trouble on 13.
But then the drink cart rolled by and Pang, Villasenor and the hapless fourth, Susan Fornoff, indulged in beers. Villasenor was buying after a double-bogey raised her pistoffsterone, and only Yi declined the offer. "I thought their games would go down," Yi lamented. "Instead, they really started playing!" Villasenor started a string of four straight pars, and Pang sank a pressure putt to save a 6. She pulled even with Yi with a par on 15, setting the stage for the dramatics on 16.
The beers even revived Fornoff, who played the last four holes 2-over after an unmentionable opening 10. "I was privileged just to watch," said Villasenor's co-captain.
Villasenor won 1st Flight Low Net, Patty Linney won 2nd Flight Low Net, and Karen Larroche and Helen Duffy tied for 3rd Flight Low Net.
After the round, Yi suggested that the club make a new rule prohibiting drinking until the 18th hole. Members promptly and loudly overruled her and suggested she find a new club. She promises to return in 2015, however, and give the new champion another good fight.
